Four things to look for in healthy drinking water
We can go without food for weeks, but when it comes to water, we would die of dehydration within a few days. Over two-thirds of our body is made up of water, yet most of us probably don’t understand the importance of drinking plain clean water.
When it comes to drinking water, not all water is equal. The main types of drinking water we know are: Tap water, Purified water and Natural mineral water.
Each brand of bottled water varies in the content of the water. In the USA, there are over 700 brands of bottled water available, and around 80% of them are processed.
The type of water we drink can actually give you many health benefits as well as healing effects on the body. There are four main components in water that together form a powerful, potent and healthy combination which enables the body to benefit from just one bottle. These are:
1. Hardness
Hardness refers to the amount of Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg), or Calcium Carbonate in water. The more of these nutrients in the water, the harder the water. Many studies have been published on the relationship between drinking water and cardiovascular mortality. Water hardness is an important factor in reducing risk of heart disease. Adequate calcium and magnesium intake are instrumental in lowering blood pressure.
Frequently where water is hard, it is also high in TDS – Total Dissolved Solids.
2. TDS
Total Dissolved Solids (TD is a measurement of all the minerals in drinking water. TDS is the term used to describe the inorganic salts and small amounts of organic matter present in solution in water. Other than Calcium and Magnesium, the other principal constituents are usually: sodium, zinc, copper, chromium, potassium cations and carbonate, hydrogencarbonate, chloride, sulfate, and nitrate. TDS have also been associated with lower mortality from heart disease and cancer. Knowing the levels of Ca and Mg in your drinking water is worthwhile. Look at both the hardness levels and the specific amounts of Ca and Mg.
Ideal TDS count for drinking water: 300
3. pH
Because alkaline water has a higher pH level than plain tap water or purified water, it can neutralize acid in your bloodstream.
Having a balanced pH in the body is essential to prevent diseases and have good health. Your body’s pH determines if your body’s fluids are more alkaline or acidic. When your body is in an alkaline state, your chances of getting sick with chronic diseases decrease.
Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water typically has a pH of 8 or 9.
Ideal pH for drinking water: 7-9
4. Silica
Silica is a hard, glassy-like mineral that is found dissolved in water as a result from the bedrock it passes through, like sandstone and granite.
The properties of silicon-rich mineral water can support the immune system, promote wound healing, rejuvenate the body and protect against the formation of wrinkles. For people that suffer from heart problems, drinking silica water helps reduce the risk.
Some chemicals that are extremely harmful to our bodies and that we should stay away from, mainly:
Chlorine
Fluoride
Asbestos
We encourage you to really investigate what is in your water as choosing the right one is beneficial for our general well-being.
